DSC_3071-smSan Diego local Chef Javier Ortega, owner of Spanglish Eats, will be an exhibitor at this week’s Latin Food Fest Grand Tasting with over 100 other businesses. “I’m excited to be celebrating the diversity of our culture with my fellow San Diegans and introducing them to my style of Latino and American inspired cuisine,” said Chef Javier.

Just over a year ago, Ortega launched Spanglish Eats with a mission to feed the hungry masses of San Diego fresh, delicious and affordable food.  “Spanglish Eats is all about bringing my favorite Latin and American foods to San Diego and give locals a real, home-style taste of where I’m from! It’s not your mom’s food… it’s my mom’s food!” You can see him serving up his variety of fresh, hand-made empanadas and fresh tortilla chips and salsas at local farmer’s markets and street fairs around town or have him cater your next special event.

Chef Javier Ortega was born and raised in Corona, New York City, a diverse neighborhood in the borough of Queens. This multicultural community helped to shape his ambition for success, his no-holds barred personality, and a hunger for all things yummy.

As the first generation off-spring of immigrant parents from Columbia and Honduras, Chef Javier adopted the Ortega household’s strong sense of pride and hard work ethics. Growing up in an extended bi-lingual family in NYC, there was always a reason to entertain and most importantly COOK!! Very early in his childhood, what started out as hunger and curiosity for the kitchen quickly developed into practice, participation, and a profound respect for his family’s ability to feed an army.

Chef Javier finally decided to pursue his passion for food and hospitality full-time in 2007 when he and his wife Krista moved to San Diego. Since then, he has fast-tracked his career and cooked at many different restaurants and catering companies in San Diego learning different styles and flavor profiles and incorporating them into his own brand of food.

Spanglish Eats is Chef Javier’s vision of his favorite home-style American and Latino dishes – New American as he likes to call it. His genuine, San Diego success story of pursuing the American dream to feed the masses is as local and gritty as it gets.
